Marina City

Marina City's twin towers, reduced to what makes them Marina City: scalloped balconies stacked floor on floor, pink petals over blue cores. At the foot of each tower the parking floors open up, cars tucked in with their lights glowing red, and the river runs underneath in blue stripes that ripple into the words MARINA CITY, with two small boats heading out.
Bertrand Goldberg finished the corncobs in 1964 on the north bank of the river at State Street, a city within a city with a marina at its feet. The first nineteen floors are a parking ramp that spirals up each tower, and at 587 feet they were the tallest residential buildings in the world when they opened.
