Property lines felt like an illusion to me as a kid. What did it mean to say, “That’s your land, and this is mine”?

Suburban Mirage is part of a series exploring my experience growing up in the suburbs. Every neighborhood had its own distinct layout. Some felt like an architect’s finest work; others revealed the grid beneath them—designed for order, repetition, and ease.

This work is an ode to the suburbs: the place that taught me what was real, what was make-believe, and how easily the two could blur.
