UPTOWN JAZZ
Two saxophones, one chord, drawn in stripes.
Two saxophones, a green one and an orange one, drawn in nothing but vertical stripes, overlapping where the bells meet so that a third colour appears in the space between them. That purple is the harmony: two horns playing at once.
Uptown has kept jazz alive longer than anywhere else in Chicago. The Green Mill on Broadway has poured drinks since 1907, Al Capone favoured the booth with a view of both doors, and the poetry slam was born in the same room in 1986. The music is still going every night of the week.
