THE LOOP
Every colour of the L, running in the loop that gave downtown its name.
Chicago's trains are known by their colours: Red, Blue, Brown, Green, Orange, Pink, Purple and Yellow. Here all eight run together, bending around each other until the tracks themselves spell the words, with tiny silver cars riding the lines and the elevated structure holding it all up along the bottom edge.
The Loop is a real circuit. The elevated tracks that ring downtown were joined into one in 1897, and the name stuck to the whole district; cable cars had looped the same streets since 1882.
